Who chooses your behavior?

People say, “It’s God’s plan,” “God will save me,” and “In God we trust.” But when the moment comes to speak, act, stay, leave, help, or hide—who makes that choice? You do.

The God Within begins with responsibility. Each of us chooses our behavior, and each of us lives with what follows. Handing that responsibility to a person, a church, fate, or even to God can feel comforting. It can also keep us from discovering what we are capable of.

The God Within does not give us a nice way out. It gives us a great way in.

The cost of comfort

Avoiding an unpleasant truth may spare us pain for a while. The bill arrives later. We fail to reach our potential. We live someone else’s life. We miss the chance to make our corner of the world better.

Pain is not proof that life has gone wrong. Sometimes it is the price of learning, loving, trying, and seeing clearly. When we stop running from that price, pain becomes information. We can use it.

What is within you

The God Within is not another figure you must obey. It is the observing awareness that can notice a thought without becoming that thought. It is the capacity to pause, examine reality, and choose what happens next.

Call it consciousness, the Highest Self, the True Self, or the light of awareness. The name is less important than the experience: the power you have been seeking outside yourself is already present.

From that place, you can define your goals, learn from mistakes, build lasting relationships, love without condition, and create a life that is actually yours.

A different reading of familiar words

“God’s plan” can mean: make your plan with open eyes. “Salvation” can mean: take responsibility for what saves you. “God loves me” can mean: learn to love yourself without lying to yourself. “In God we trust” can mean: place trust in the awareness that can meet reality as it is.

You do not have to adopt a belief. Begin by observing. Ask what is true, especially when truth and comfort pull in opposite directions.
